Wheelie Bins for Every Home

Wheelie Bins for Every Home: Ending the Rubbish Crisis in Waikato

Waikato’s waste system is broken. In many towns across the district, families are left without a council-provided bin, forced to pay private providers just to manage basic household rubbish. This is not only unfair—it’s inefficient, unsustainable, and costly.

A Rodrigues-led council will change that.

I will deliver a “Wheelie Bin for Every Home” guarantee. This means standardising council-run rubbish bin collection across the district, starting with towns that currently have no access to it. No more patchwork service. No more being forced into expensive private contracts. One simple, reliable bin system—paid for through your rates, not out of pocket.

For years, council has dragged its feet. My plan is different. It is practical, affordable, and based on clear goals:

  • Bring council-managed rubbish collection to every household in Waikato District.

  • End private monopolies that profit off public neglect.

  • Ensure fairness—residents in Pōkeno, Tuakau, Port Waikato and elsewhere will get the same service as everyone else.

The current system has failed. I’ll fix it and deliver real results, for everyone.
