Meet Fabio

Kia ora. I’m Fabio Rodrigues and I’m proud to call Pōkeno & Tuakau home.

I was born in Durban, South Africa and moved to New Zealand when I was eight years old. Since then, Waikato has been my home. I went to Pōkeno Primary School and later attended Pukekohe High. I’ve lived here most of my life and even though I wasn’t born here, I was raised here. I’ve grown up with this community and I know its people, its challenges, and its potential.

Growing up as an orphan, life wasn’t always easy. But the lessons I learned early — resilience, responsibility, and service — have shaped who I am today. I’ve worked part-time while studying full-time and experienced firsthand the realities many families in our district face.

Since 2020, I’ve been involved with the Young Nationals, volunteering and learning what it means to engage in politics at a grassroots level. In 2023, I had the opportunity to work closely with Andrew Bayly, an MP I respect deeply. Seeing his work ethic, commitment to the community, and willingness to listen inspired me to take the next step and run for Councillor myself.

I’m running because I believe our district deserves better and that starts by restoring our promise. The promise that no matter who you are or where you come from, you should be able to build a good life here. That’s what “Bring It Home” means to me. Bringing home opportunity, fairness, and hope for every corner of Waikato.

Outside of politics, I’m a student, a worker, a neighbour, and someone who truly cares about where we’re headed. I believe in putting people first, listening more than I speak, and never forgetting where I came from.

I’m not here to pretend I have all the answers. I’m here to work hard, stand up for everyday people, and help us all move forward together.

I am deeply committed to ensuring that every voice in our district is not only heard but truly valued. I believe community engagement is the cornerstone of effective leadership. That means getting out into the neighbourhoods, listening carefully to your concerns, ideas, and hopes for the future. By working together and embracing open, honest conversations, we can build a council that reflects the true needs and aspirations of all Waikato residents.

Together, we can build a stronger, fairer district where opportunity is accessible to everyone. A district where families feel safe, businesses can thrive, and young people see a future worth staying for. I’m excited for the journey ahead and hopeful about what we can achieve as a community united in purpose and determination.
